Nice Music is thrilled to announce the debut release from multi-skilled Melbourne percussionist, Maria Moles (Jaala, Francis Plagne, On Diamond). 'Opening' contains two elongated solo percussion-based pieces, stunningly recorded and brightly framing her renowned ability for restrained precision. Her patterns, feel and phrasing can't help but feel infinitely biological in their relentlessness and restlessness - compellingly, she merges her impressive training and playing experience with a knack for summoning requisite breathing room and mysterious unpredictability. A pure flow of creative incandescence and rhythmic lyricism.
Spacey and dreamy with a cool, laid-back groove. Reminds me of Air if they were less overtly poppy and more jazzy and complex. Make no mistake, though - this is almost as catchy. It's just less direct. The guitar solo in The Gloves Don't Bite is dope as heck, by the way. Smekermann
